Biography:

1901 living at 6 Planet Street St.George in the East Stepney with "husband" 'Lewis'(sp) and sons
Louis Chencholsky age 23 and Harry Chencholsky age 12 and Abraham Horvitch age 25 Russian
boarder.

No trace of a marriage between Louis Goldberg and Deborah Chencholsky has yet been found (2006)
in any of the marriage registers for the period.
Deborah was known as the Miminke (Auntie) who was “a Litvak, hated by all the family because she
cooked 'vile Russian food' and was cruel”. 50 years later when Katy was a grandmother, she still
passionately remembered how cruel and hated her stepmother was.

Louis was bedridden by 1914 and the children promised to look after Deborah if she took care of
him during his illness (a strange detail – why would they otherwise have doubted it unless the
rest of the family knew Louis and Deborah were not legally married) After Louis death in 1916,
Deborah did the rounds, collecting a shilling a week from each of the children, contact was lost
with her during the war. (source Neil Hornick)
